Afghanistan: more open than ever

From IMB’s CompassionNet Daily Prayer

The hand of God is working through the events of recent history to give the peoples of Afghanistan an unprecedented opportunity to respond to the good news of Jesus Christ. It is not that all Afghans have heard and understood the gospel at this point. Indeed, Afghanistan is still a nation of peoples predominantly beyond the reach of that news. However, after centuries of isolation, Afghanistan's encounter with the world during the war against the Soviets and the destructiveness of decades of Civil War ending in the oppressiveness of the Taliban have led to a new political and cultural openness. Pray for peace and progress in the establishment of civil society in these days of nation building. Pray that God's people who have been called to communicate God's message to the peoples of Afghanistan will be faithful, Spirit-empowered witnesses. And pray that the Word of God may spread rapidly and grow in power through the emerging churches among the peoples of Afghanistan.
