People Group Focus: Poles of Poland

The war siren blew for five minutes signifying a tragic event in the nation – flags were at half-staff worldwide in the streets of Poland thousands crowded to Warsaw's center to observe a mass to remember their Pope.

Poland is 95% Catholic, so to be Polish is to be Catholic. To most Poles, evangelical Christians are part of a cult. To say that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven is a claim that, in their minds, cannot be right because such a claim is against the Catholic church teachings. Yet, Jesus is calling all peoples – even Polish Catholics into a relationship with himself through his Son Jesus. Read more . . .

Prayer Requests for the Poles

1. Pray for the millions of Catholics who continue to mourn the death of their spiritual leader and fellow countryman. Pray that this will lead to deep soul searching and turning of hearts to Jesus alone for answers.

2. Pray that evangelical students will seek God’s wisdom and discernment in addressing this delicate subject, that we will do so with Christ-like love, compassion and patience, believing God is preparing hearts to receive his Message.

3. Pray for God to send laborers to the harvest fields among the Poles.

Persecuted Church: Last Frontier

A group of Christian men in this mostly-Mulsim country came under severe persecution last year, receiving death threats. The wife of the man who led the persecution was very ill and one of the believers, a doctor, visited her and prayed for her healing. He then explained to her what the group believes. The woman is now well and she has rebuked her husband for getting in the way of the hand of God. The persecution, for the moment, has stopped.

The believers say that they have the names of several thousand people in their area who are at differing degrees of readiness to receive the Truth. Most of this resulted from the persecution. The tiny candle for Christ that was lit about three years ago is about to become a blazing fire. Pray that those who are seeking the truth would see its light and come to gather around its warmth.

Missionary Bio Byte: James Chalmers

Newly arrived in New Guinea, James Chalmers saw his house surrounded by a mob of painted, fierce-looking savages, armed with spears, clubs, and bows and arrows, threatening to kill him and his colleagues. Their threats remained words only that afternoon, but at dusk a friendly native crept to the house and said, "You must get away tonight if you can. Tomorrow morning,  they will murder all of you. I have just come from their meeting at the chief's house and that is their decision."
