Searching for What was Lost

Written By JC – Volunteer Prayer Coordinator on the field

After losing everything some people don’t know where to begin and others begin anywhere they can. Sadik [sah-deek] is one of the latter. All that is left of his house is a concrete foundation, yet he has recovered a table and a mat to place on his property. All that is left of his village is rubble, but he intends to move back and begin his work as a fisherman. All that is left of his family is him, so he has searched until he found the bodies of his wife, mother, and children so that he might bury them.

A team of volunteers from the U.S., who came to the Tsunami stricken area to serve in any way possible, ended up helping with body removal. They met Sadik when assisting in his village. Both those hired by the government to remove bodies and the villagers themselves would not touch the bodies, but Sadik was different. He showed the team where bodies were and helped to extract the bodies from the rubble without gloves, shoes, or a mask. He feared nothing. He only hoped to obtain some type of closure by finding and burying the bodies of those he loved and by praying over all those they were able to recover. When bodies were found he covered them with cloth and prayed over them before allowing them to placed in the body bag. Through the efforts of Sadik and the volunteer team, he found his family. Many other bodies were also recovered from the rubble, and a few families were given the peace of knowing that their loved ones had been found and buried.

Read Luke 15 How is Pak Sadik like the man, the woman, and the father?

In just minutes, the tsunami wave swept Pak Sadik’s family and 2,000 others into a Christ-less eternity. They were lost and no one bothered to go and find them. Now it is too late. Before it is too late for others, will you diligently seek the lost of the world until they are found? How will you do that this week?

How will you do that during your next break from school?

Find a mission project on thetask.org. Write the description of that project below. Commit to pray for that project until it happens. Pray specifically for God to send people to seek the lost through that project. Ask God if He wants you to be part of that project.

God is searching for Pak Sadik like Sadik searched for his lost family members – with abandon (without gloves or mask). God got his “hands dirty” to search for the lost of the world. You can search for the nations – will you go to them with abandon?
