Khalif's
Miracle
By a worker on the field
Khalif,
a Bedouin man from southern Lebanon, served as a host to
Baptist volunteers and B&B team members. Khalif has
shown interest in learning more about Jesus and has even
read the first three Gospels.
One
morning Khalif told a group about a miracle that had happened
during the previous night. It was a cold night, and “SS”
(one of the B&B team members) was sick. So being the
good host that he was, Khalif kept the heater on high and
used all his fuel to keep the tent warm. After all the fuel
ran out, he asked one of his friends to try to find enough
money to buy more fuel. His friend returned a few minutes
later asking what was going on, because the fuel tank was
full! He immediately knew that the Father had provided for
him through a miracle.
When
“SS” suggested that maybe someone had come and
filled the tank while they were all in the tent, Khalif
laughed and said, “No one loves me that much. My own
family is more likely to steal the empty can than to fill
it up.” “SS’s” first reaction was
to be skeptical and think through all the possible ways
that the fuel could have “appeared” in the tank.
But later he realized that, whether or not it was a physical
miracle of the Father creating fuel where none was before,
or whether a family member secretly borrowed oil to get
them through the night, what did it matter? The real miracle
was that this man trusted and is trusting Jesus with everything
he has. The Lord is providing for his physical needs, and
he is praising Jesus in front of his neighbors as a result.
What greater miracle is there?
Pray
for Khalif and his family. He has received persecution from
his family, and was woken up one night at 2 a.m. by a group
of armed men outside his tent saying they were from “the
party” and threatened him and his family. Ask that
Khalif would continue to stay strong in the face of persecution,
and that the Father would continue to meet his physical
needs.
