Spring 2000

Week nine

What’s inside:

People Group Focus; Message from the Field; Project List; BE A JOURNEYMAN!; and God’s Heart for the Nations Bible study.

Unreached People Group (UPG) focus:  The Mestizos of Peru

High above the coastal plains of Peru rise the Andes Mountains. Situated among these peaks are literally thousands of tiny Mestizo villages, where inhabitants have never heard the gospel message clearly presented. In one of the villages, Chonta Baja, a Peruvian pastor and a missionary are discipling a group of new believers with the hope they will soon become a church, reaching out to nearby towns. Thank God for these Mestizo believers. Ask God to glorify His name by maturing them into effective disciplemakers and multiplying their number.

About 260 unreached people groups still have no one committed to taking the good news of God’s love to them, says AD2000 & Beyond. Some 1,120 groups have no church of 100 members, and 533 have no on-site church planting team.

Cry out to God on behalf of these lost children who have no one to show them the way back to the Father. Ask God to show your congregation how you can help take the good news of His saving love to those who have never heard.

A message from the field:

Bulls and Bears ... Both are symbols in Spain. The bull is perhaps the best known example—“Running of the Bulls” in Pamplona, bull fights, the silhouettes (of bulls) on many highways throughout Spain. The bear and the madrona tree are emblematic symbols of the city of Madrid.

There is another symbol in Spain—the cross. But unlike the bull and the bear the cross in Spain becomes less significant daily. Even a crucified Christ on the cross seems to be no more than a relic of the past.

Would you come join other Christian college students from around the world in an effort to present Christ as alive - more than a symbol or a relic of the past? Would you come join us in sharing the Good News that Christ does care?

Students participating in this summer’s project in Spain and North Africa will be assigned to a multinational team of students from around the world who will minister in Spanish Baptist churches, distribute Christian materials to passengers boarding boats headed for North Africa and trek and prayerwalk into Morocco. You may use your skills in mime, sports, drama and music to minister.

What are you doing after college?

Hey, this is Scott in the Journeyman office at the IMB, reminding you who are seniors about a great opportunity to serve God for two years after graduation. The Journeyman Program provides over 200 graduates every year the experience of a lifetime. We are looking for qualified, motivated, gifted and God-called school teachers, volunteer coordinators, disciplers, student workers, English teachers, computer gurus, sports evangelists, media specialists, and yes, church planters. The list goes on and on.

Ours is a missionary-screening process that takes about four months or so to get to the field. Why not take some time to check out if this opportunity is for you. Hit our Web site at http://going.imb.org/journeyman.asp and investigate the qualifications, benefits and possibilities for yourself (or hit our link off of www.thetask.org). You may prefer to call our office at 1-800-789-GoYe, or even write to me at Journeyman@imb.org. Ask questions, get informed, listen to God, find out if this is for you. Are you ready to do something more significant for two years prior to your getting into your chosen career?
