Wisdom from Down Under
As a summer/student missionary, I flew into Australia
with a lot of luggage. I had summer stuff for the orientation
in California, winter stuff for Australia and a variety of
materials and paraphernalia to use. I even took two Bibles!
The Australians who met me at the airport and saw my
backpack and suitcases said, Well, that isnt bad
for an American. I really felt that I was justified
in bringing all my stuff. You know what? I needed little of
it.
In the same way we go to missions assignments with
baggagemisconceptions, fears, perhaps even a shaky faithand
it will load us down. Perhaps you are sad about leaving family
and friends. Maybe you have trouble witnessing. You need to
lay it all at the feet of Christ, and then stand up to serve
Him unencumbered by the baggage of this world.
