Iowa State University
Campus ministry
Assignment: We worked in seven or eight
of around 30 universities in Poosong, South Korea. We held
major events where the gospel was presented through the Power
Band bracelet. It was a great way to build relationships.
Then we’d meet with students one-on-one and funnel them
into Bible studies.
Reaching out: We handed out phone cards
with the saying “What profit a man if he gain the whole
world but lost his own soul?” We encouraged people to
think about that question.
Memorable man: One guy seemed like he was
really seeking. We got to spend some time with him and share
the gospel. He would come to Bible studies, and you could
just see in his eyes that he wanted to know.
Encouraging story: We met one guy who had
become a Christian in Australia, but he came back and didn’t
get plugged in. He responded to a flier and came to an event
and was baptized recently.
The team: Our team was made up of students
from Iowa State and Cal Baptist.
American changed: The summer had a major
impact on one student’s life. She came back as a different
student. When she was in South Korea, she had to do some extroverted
things. It really changed her. To really get involved in people’s
lives is not easy. Since then she has really been a co-laborer
to me.
Why you should go: You gotta get over there
once at least. You’ll never be the same. It’s
not all just like America. You begin to develop a passion
for the nations. If we really want to have God’s vision,
it’s got to be bigger than our campus. It has to be
as big as the world, or it’s not as big as God.
