Tips for Taking Great Photos

Top 10 Tips from IMB photographer Roy Burroughs:

1. Get Close, use your feet not just your Zoom.

2. Take lots of Pictures, and study them to determine what you can do to improve on them.

3. Turn the Automatic Flash off, if you have enough light.

4. Shoot early in the Morning and late afternoon to get the great light.

5. Don’t always put your main subject in the center of the image (unless your camera will only focus on the center).

6. Turn the Date and Time OFF.

7. Take a Variety of subject matter, Scenics, People, Animals, Detail shots.

8. Get Even Closer. You’re still not close enough (the only exception is if your camera doesn’t focus that close in)

9. Digital: use the highest resolution JPEG. You paid for a High resolution camera USE the Resolution.

10. Digital: treat your original digital files like Negatives, put them on a CD in their original form, don’t crop or try to color correct the pictures until after they have been “Archived” If you mess up on an original file it’s gone forever
