Bringing truth where there is confusion
Seville, Spain June 16-23, 2012 Cost: $950 per person plus airfare
Register by: March 15, 2012
Entry Requirements: USA passport only
Why Go? Spain has had a remarkable transformation from dictatorship to liberty, poverty to wealth, and religious discrimination to religious liberty. Secular materialism, however, has eroded traditional morality and created a spiritual vacuum. False beliefs and spiritual confusion abound. IWC will join in the effort to engage people in spiritual conversations through ESL, children and youth programs, community service projects, campus evangelism, and literature distribution.
About Seville: The fourth largest city in the country, Seville is located in the south near the Portugal border. Founded as a river port by Phoenician traders, it flourished under the Romans and became a cultural center under the Visigoths. Muslim occupation and Spanish reconquest only added to its legacy. Now it's the Spain of popular imagination, the home of bullfights and flamenco, the world of fiction’s famous protagonists Don Juan and Cármen and the land of white-washed houses and flower-filled patios. Seville is also celebrated for its religious festivals and its variety of medieval, Roman, and Muslim architecture. Summers here are fairly hot with very little rain.Cultural Information: Spain's population density, lower than that of most European countries, is roughly equivalent to New England's. In recent years the rural population has been moving to cities. Urban areas are also experiencing a significant increase in immigrant populations. In 1978 Spain disestablished the Roman Catholic Church as the official state religion, while continuing to recognize the cultural role it plays in Spanish society. That role appears to have no effect on morality and values, since sexual immorality, prostitution and abortion are common and an “anything goes” mentality characterizes young people especially. The departure of traditional faith has opened the door to spiritual deception and counterfeits.
