Why Go?  Slovakia has a strong Christian heritage, but national churches suffer from widespread nominalism and low attendance. Furthermore, the Roma are way off the radar of most churches. Following inroads made this past summer, IWC has been asked to help plant a Romani church and find families who are interested in studying the Bible. Ministries will include sports and English camps, spiritual surveying, door-to-door witnessing, and community service projects.

About Slovakia: Slovakia (formerly a part of Czechoslovakia) is located geographically in the center of Europe and is landlocked with high mountains in the north, low mountains in the center, hills to the west, and the Danube River basin in the south. The climate is temperate with average temperatures somewhat cool because of the mountainous terrain. Jelsava is located in rugged but beautiful country.

Cultural Information: Despite its modern European economy and society, Slovakia has a significant rural element. About 45% of Slovaks live in villages of less than 5,000 people. Economic reforms and EU membership has both created as well as solved problems. Increasing wealth (for some) is accompanied by the new influences of materialism and moral relativism. The dominant religion is Roman Catholicism.
