Why Go? Across Latin America, the population has largely moved into the urban centers like Quito. Many have embraced a syncretistic form of Catholicism and native religion, but many have no real knowledge of the Bible or saving faith. IWC joins the effort to plant churches, start Bible study groups, and reach out to families and young people. Participants will engage in special training for church planting and spend afternoons and evenings in leading kids clubs, youth sports, door-to-door witnessing, and adult discipleship meetings. Come ready to share your faith!

About Quito: Ecuador is a Spanish-speaking country about the size of Colorado with a democratically-elected government and national assembly. It has used the U.S. dollar as its official currency since 2000. Ecuador boasts an amazing geography: Amazon jungle in the east, high Andean Sierra in the centre, fertile coastal plain on Pacific Coast, and also the Galapagos Islands, 1,000 km to the west. Quito is located at 9,500 feet above sea level in the Andes Mountains of South America. Temperatures range from high 40's to low 80's with little humidity. Projects will involve lots of walking. Potential participants with a heart condition should consult a physician before coming.

Cultural Information: Ecuador's population is ethnically mixed. A large majority of the population is mestizo (mixed Amerindian-Caucasian), followed by smaller percentages of indigenous, Afro-Ecuadorian, and European descendent criollos. Although Ecuadorians were heavily concentrated in the mountainous central highland region a few decades ago, today's population is divided about equally between that area and the coastal lowlands. Migration toward cities--particularly larger cities--in all regions has increased the urban population to over 60% of the total.
